Mr. John Mason “J.M.” Fountain, Jr., 94, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Mr. Fountain, was born on July 7, 1926 to the late John Mason Fountain, Sr. and Hattie Fountain in Dublin, GA. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gendreau during WWII and later worked as a supervisor with the Department of Transportation for over 30 years where he retired. Mr. Fountain played guitar and sang with his bluegrass band, Bryan County Bluegrass at countless festivals for numerous years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, James Randall “Randy” Fountain; two daughters-in-law, Joyce Fountain and Robin Fountain and sister, Jessie Howard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Lorraine Ray Fountain; two sons, David Fountain and his wife Gail of Pembroke and Brian Fountain of Pembroke; two daughters, Lynn Ryan and her husband Chris of Pembroke and Angie Fountain and her fiancé, Mickey Bonilla of Pembroke; 11 grandchildren, Keith Conley, Kristy Joyner, Keli Fountain, Kevin Fountain, Kimberly Fountain, Krystal Butler, Kandice Butler, Kasey Fountain, Kricket Fountain, Khristopher Fountain and Karen Lowery; 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kurt Bacon officiating.
Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.
