Florencie Bacon

Florencie Gill Bacon, 99 of Pembroke, Georgia passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 16, 2022, surrounded by her children.

A native of Liberty County (Fleming, GA) she moved to Pembroke, GA upon her marriage in 1942. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Merrill E. Bacon, her parents the late Joseph Fillmore Gill, Sr. and Bedie Haymans Gill and six siblings – Henry Gill, Blanche Kent, Lollie Clark, Josie Martin, Mary Youmans, and Fillmore Gill, Jr.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pembroke.

This exceptional lady lived life to the fullest, with her fun-loving, wonderful sense of humor, her positive outlook, her strong faith, her beautiful smile, and that amazing twinkle in her blue eyes.  She was kind, strong, confident, patient, gracious, and had the gift of listening. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Evans Heights Golf Club and a charter member of the Black Creek Golf Club.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and had a love for playing the piano. Most of all she loved caring for her family. She and her husband were former owners of The Bryan Countian and The Pembroke Journal.

She is survived by her children, Merrill Philip Bacon, MD (Carol) of Midway, GA, Jerry Bacon Beard (Waymon) of Richmond Hill, GA, Bea Bacon Betsworth of Savannah, GA, and Flo Bacon Lee of Atlanta, GA,. One surviving sister Elaine Gill Morgan of Richmond Hill, Ga, many nieces, and nephews including  JF Gill III (Moe) of Fleming, GA. Grandchildren: Candace (Marty), Kate (Nathan), Whitney (Trey), Meredith (Jasna), Laura (William), Lane (Amanda).   Great-Grandchildren:  Lawson, Will, Morgan, Thomas, Cyrus, Loren, Worth, Elle, Eleanor, McKenna, and Gabriel all whom she loved dearly.

Visitation is scheduled at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Pembroke on Saturday, February 19, 2022.  Funeral will follow at noon with Pastor Robbie Joyner officiating.   Graveside services will be at Northside Cemetery.
