Eugene "Gene" Vangiller

Groveland- Eugene “Gene” VanGiller, age 65 passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at Evans Memorial Hospital.  Mr. VanGiller was born August 13, 1956 in Savannah, GA to the late Robert VanGiller and Mrs. Carolyn Williams VanGiller.  Gene was a long-time resident of Groveland and was a superintendent with Crosby’s Paving Company with over 30 years of service.  He was a member of Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed trips to the north Georgia mountains.  He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed fishing, working and his dogs.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 29 years, Nina VanGiller of Groveland; two sons, Joseph Michael VanGiller of Savannah and James Morgan VanGiller of Groveland; two daughters, Angela Mechele VanGiller of Effingham County and Ashley Nicole Hodges of Statesboro; one brother, Robert Dwayne VanGiller of Bulloch County; two sisters, Patricia Ann VanGiller of Pembroke and Barbara Jean VanGiller of South Carolina; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 1-3 P.M. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held 3 P.M. Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with Elder Lee Chambers and Elder Steve Taylor officiating.

Interment will follow in VanGiller Family Cemetery.
