Mr. David Leon Newman, age 80, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Mr. Newman was born in Bryan County on August 2, 1940 to the late B.J. Newman and Mary Jane Collins Wilkes. He worked in the construction industry as an electrician for many years and retired with over 5 years of service with Pace Electrical Contractors, Inc. and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Newman was a regular at the Pembroke Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, antique cars, fishing, playing country music on his guitar and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Everly “Jan” Newman and two brothers, W.L. Newman and Malbern Newman.

Survivors include his sister-in-law and caregiver for many years, Vickie Bradley and her husband Lonnie of Statesboro; two daughters, Melissa Beck and her husband Doug of Macon and Beverly Fran Moore and her husband Tim of Lizella; brother, James L. Wilkes of Millen; five grandchildren, Patrick Beck, Elizabeth Beck both of Macon Brittney Goodwin and her husband Adam, Kaitlyn Moore and Caleb Moore; double-first cousin, Kathy Sauls and her husband Billy of Pembroke and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
