Mr. William “Bill” Joseph Hunter, Sr. passed away at Oaks at Pooler on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 with his family by his side.  Mr. Hunter was born on February 13, 1926 in New Smyrna, FL to the late Dr. Isaac and Annie Cornelia Dean Hunter. He entered the US Navy at the tender age of 16 with his mothers’ help and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater.  After leaving the Navy he was an auto mechanic while pursuing his strong interest in aviation.  Soon he became a pilot for Southern Airways.  During this time he married Thelma King of Valdosta Georgia starting their family.  Later he worked and retired from the FAA as an Air Carrier Inspector.  He continued his love for flying as a corporate pilot keeping his family in tow moving all over the U.S., 42 times last count, during his career. Mr. Hunter was a mason, enjoyed ballroom dancing, water skiing, and was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Chloe Hunter Fuller White and most recently Thelma K. Hunter Feb. 25 of this year.

Survivors include two sons, Harry H. Hunter, wife Joyce, of Coolidge, GA and William “Bill” Joseph Hunter, Jr., wife Brenda, of Black Creek; daughter, Shelia Swinney, husband Doug, of Macomb, OK; 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Doctor Lawrence Butler officiating.

Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Colquitt City Cemetery in Colquitt, GA.
