William "Bill" Carter

Mr. William “Bill” Homer Carter, 89, passed away at his residence on Friday, August 31, 2018. Mr. Carter was born on May 12, 1929 to the late Frank “Pa” and Lillie “Granny” Moon Carter in Pine Hill, Ga. He served in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic during the Korean War in Germany. Mr. Carter had a love for music, mainly Bluegrass, because of this he also played lead guitar and mandolin with the Air Force Band where he played on the Grand Ole Opry and also appeared on the Jerry Lee Lewis Telethon. After leaving the Air Force, he started working with Snap-On Tools as a Sales Representative and played a vital role in bringing Snap-On to Savannah where he later became a dealer. Mr. Carter was very close to his family and loved them very much. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rincon, the Tifton Masonic Lodge F & AM and the Hasan Shriners.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sarah Elizabeth Veale Carter and brother, Curtis Carter.

Survivors include two sons, James H. Carter of Pembroke and W. Scott Carter of Guyton; daughter, Kim A. Bean and her husband Michael of Guyton; two brothers, Jimmy Carter and his wife Harriet of Collins and Ernest “Monkey” Carter of Albany; three sisters, Thelma “Pat” Carlysle of Gainsville, FL, Joyce Smith of Tifton and Janice Sinquefield and her husband Ottis of Albany; five grandchildren, Amy Bean, Jennifer Bean, Dewayne Bean, Franny Carter and Jamie Carter; three great grandchildren, Sarah Stevens, Aiden Sorrell and Erin Colley and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
