Wayland Richard Medlin, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, at the age of 86 in Pooler, GA. Born in Burlington, North Carolina, on Friday, February 10th, 1939 to the late Wayland Richard Medlin, Sr. and Myrtle Castle Medlin. Wayland touched the lives of many through his dedication to family, work, and community.
Wayland was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 64 years, Imelda Smith Medlin, as well as his parents, three dear sisters, Betty Jolly, Faye Southern and Barbara Medlin; his grandson, Kyle Turansky, and son-in-law, Stephen Cope.
He is survived by his four devoted children, Debra Cope of Tennessee, Teresa Turansky (David) of Kathleen, GA, Patricia Carter (Tony) of Guyton, GA, and Richard Medlin (Josette) of Rolla, MO. Wayland was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Stephen Cope (Melinda), Scott Cope (Ashley), Michael Kramer (Tiffany), Richard Kramer (Michael Barrett), Sasha Turansky, and Rickey Carter. His legacy extends to his 6 great-grandchildren: Michaela Kramer, Cooper Kramer, Hayden Cope, Peyton Cope, Eli Cope and Savannah Cope. Wayland's life was further enriched by his special family, Mike Kramer and Kathleen Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Professionally, Wayland was a committed and respected manager for 40 years at aircraft. His career continued with a fulfilling five-year tenure at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation before retiring. His work ethic and dedication were exemplary, leaving a lasting impression on those he worked with.
An avid fisherman, Wayland found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He relished a double stack burger with mustard and onions from Wendy's, always accompanied by a chocolate Frosty consumed first. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will live on in their hearts.
Wayland Richard Medlin's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be private.
