Wanda Bragg Newman, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 27th, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on February 18th, 1952, in Claxton, Georgia, Wanda was a cherished resident of Pembroke, GA, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Wanda dedicated her professional life as a supervisor at Gateway Behavioral Health Services and later retired from Gateway Community Service of Hinesville after many years of service. Her commitment to helping others was evident not only in her career but in every aspect of her life.
Her passions were diverse and abundant. An avid animal lover, Wanda cherished her pets as if they were her own children. She found joy in sewing, fishing, gardening, painting, and most of all, spending time with her family. Known affectionately as the "Queen" of her family, she was admired for her loving nature and her ability to bring joy to those around her. Wanda's deep faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she found great fulfillment in her role as a Sunday School teacher for the Children's Sunday School at her cherished Northside Baptist Church.
Wanda is survived by her loving daughter Amanda Newman of Pembroke; her devoted siblings Raymond Hansford (Linda) of Pembroke, Wade Bragg, and Ken Butler (Wendy) of Pembroke; her aunt Shirley Collins (Ertell) and her special niece Sandra Mayo. Wanda's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will also live on through her numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her loyal canine companion, Genie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Oliver Bragg and Juanita Weathers Butler, her stepfather Lucious "Billy" Butler, her husband of 43 years Thomas Anthony "Andy" Newman, her cherished daughter Joanie Newman, her sisters Nancy Robinson and Gloria Dianne Newman, her brother John Bragg, her brother-in-law Randy Newman, her nephew Thomas Canuet, and her niece Lora Newman.
A funeral service to honor Wanda's life will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, at 11:00 am at Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory in Pembroke, GA with Rev. Jason Isclaw officiating. Visitation will take place just prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the same location. Burial will be at Red Hill Cemetery in Brooklet. Arrangements are provided by Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Wanda's honor to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund at 458 W E Smith Road, Pembroke, GA 31321, as this would have been Wanda's wish.
Wanda Bragg Newman leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering strength. She will be remembered as an awesome mom and the strongest woman her daughter has ever known. Her spirit will forever be a source of guidance and inspiration for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
