Travis Sims Jr., a beloved resident of Ellabell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on Thursday, July 21st, 1938, in Ellabell, he spent his entire life enriching the community he dearly loved.
Travis was a man of diverse talents and interests. His early years were marked by dedicated service to his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from September 1956 to December 1959. After his military service, Travis worked in the paper mill at Union Camp, and later was employed with Oelschig's Nursery for 14 years. Travis found his calling as a salesman and service professional, dedicating many years to Simco Supplies until is retirement.
A man of faith, Travis was a devout member of the Old Fellowship Baptist Church in Brooklet, Georgia, where he served as a Deacon, contributing tirelessly to the spiritual well-being of his community. His hobbies included power weightlifting, deep sea fishing, yard work, car maintenance, and the thrill of drag racing. Travis was also an avid reader, constantly seeking knowledge and enjoying the world of literature.
Travis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carolyn C. Sims; his son, Bruce Sims; his parents, Travis Sims Sr. and Laura Gray Sims; and his siblings, George Sims Sr., Joyce Williams Roake, Helen Zipperer, and Lucille Boatright.
He is survived by his devoted children: his son, Tracy Sims; his daughters, Sheila Owen and her husband Douglas, Angel Love and her husband Chris, and Theresa Ayen from Arizona. Travis was also the cherished grandfather to Laura Hughes and her husband Patrick, Haley Love, Zachary Owen, and John Jacobo. He leaves behind his sister, Sarah Coursey, and numerous nieces and nephews who will all fondly remember him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 6-8 at Flanders Powel Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Travis's life will be held at the Old Fellowship Baptist Church in Brooklet, GA, on Friday, February 20th, 2026, at 11:00 am. Arrangements are being handled with care by Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.
Travis will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. His legacy of love, service, and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
