Ellabell- Mr. Thurmond Samuel Groover, Sr. age 77, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at Ogeechee Area Hospice.  Mr. Groover was a native of Blackshear and lived in Savannah before relocating to Ellabell over 40 years ago.  Mr. Groover was a heavy equipment operator. He could operate most equipment, but was an excellent finish motor grader operator with Reynolds Construction Company.  He loved taking care of his yard and was an avid vegetable gardener and farmer.  Mr. Groover loved wildlife, raising turkeys, quail and other fowl.  He recently planted and enjoyed a butterfly garden.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Alexander and Bonnie Davis Groover, four brothers and a son-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of over 56 years, Mrs. Carole Howell Groover of Ellabell, son and daughter-in-law Sammy and Donna Groover of Appling, GA , daughter Nancy Groover Shuman of Ellabell; one sister, Norene (Jerry) Bennett of Valdosta; grandchildren, Sam, Ashley (Matthew), Laura, Anna, Katelyn, Daniel, Joshua, Taylor and James; great-grandchildren, Luke and Eden and his dog, Jeff.

Visitation will be held 5-7 P.M. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 7 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.

Visitation will also be held at 1-2 P.M. Friday, October 23 at Pearson-Dial Funeral Home in Blackshear.  Interment will follow in Ramah Cemetery.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Ramah Cemetery Fund, c/o Charlotte Smith, 2396 W. Horseshoe Road, Alma, GA 31510.

Interment will follow in Ramah Cemetery.

Flanders Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
