Thomas Ervin (T.E) Hughes, 72 of Ellabell Georgia passed away on Friday 06/30/2023 surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s hospital. Tommy was born January 27, 1951, in Ducktown Tennessee, to Caroline and the late Harold (Bunt) Hughes. He relocated to Savannah in the early 70’s with his late wife Kathy but always called the mountains of Tennessee home. He spent many years hanging vinyl siding and enjoyed “directing” people. He was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spent many Friday nights at Oglethorpe Speedway watching dirt track racing. He tinkered on old Fords, loved watching westerns and reading Louis L’Amour. He was lucky enough to find love a second time with his surviving wife Denice Hughes and even took up square dancing for a short period of time. He never met a stranger and adopted stray animals and children all the same.
He is survived by his mother Caroline Hughes of Ducktown, wife Denice Hughes of Ellabell, daughter and son in law Jennifer and Jimmy Oliver of Ellabell, Son and daughter in law Michael and Amanda Hughes of Midway, his grandson Chanceler and Madeline Oliver of Ellabell, granddaughter Patience Oliver of Ellabell, great granddaughter Lila Rose Oliver of Ellabell, brother and sister in law Tim and Diana Hughes of Cleveland, sister in law’s Lebeth Stillwell (Tim Stillwell) of Ellabell and Robin Hudson (Don Hudson) of Brooklet, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Harold (Bunt) Hughes, his first wife Deborah “Kathy” Hughes and his sister Glenda Walker.
There will be a celebration of life on Thursday July 6th at 2:00 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Ducktown Tennessee.
