Thomas Fabrikant

November 13, 1946 — November 5, 2018

Pembroke

Tom Fabrikant, 71, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at home with his beloved dogs. He leaves behind his brother, Jim Fabrikant (Kathleen), and two nieces, Latrelle Fabrikant Ferrelle(Chas) and Renee Fabrikant. He was also close to two great-nephews, Charlie and Wyatt Ferrelle and one great niece, Ramsey Allen, all of whom were like his own grandchildren. Of course, the loves of his life were his dogs: Titus, Ansley, Bernie, Singer, and OglalaLakota.

Born in Savannah, GA, he was a son of the late Katherine Jennings Fabrikant and James Louis Fabrikant, Sr.  He is a United States Army veteran and served in Viet Nam. He was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Sharpshooter Badge – M-16.

Tom held a B.S. in Biology (Zoology) and a graduate degree in Science Education and taught high school students before his deployment to Viet Nam.

Tom worked at the Savannah Hilton Head Airport for nearly 25 years as an electronic technician. He loved the work and was fascinated by the challenges each day brought. He leaves many beloved colleagues in his airport family who will miss him and the level of expertise he brought to his profession.

He also worked for years designing electronic surveillance and alarm systems for many businesses throughout the Savannah area.

Although Tom regaled his family with stories of the dog’s escapades over the years, he also loved telling stories about strange unexplained happens that rivaled any book written about Savannah and its hauntings. His wicked sense of humor often included tales of extraterrestrial beings, all of which always had a surprise twist at the end.

There will be a celebration of Tom’s life Thursday, November 15, at the Carey Hilliard’s in Pooler (198 Pooler Parkway) from 1-4 PM. The family would love to hear your stories and memories of Tom.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the Bryan County Animal Control Shelter, (144 W. Industrial Blvd., Pembroke, GA 31321) whose staff have gone over and above to find forever homes for Tom’s dogs. They have fed the dogs daily and gained their trust. Singer has a home and Bernie is currently the darling of the shelter.
