Shirley Alice Avant

Pembroke-  Shirley Alice Rogers Avant, age 79, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at Effingham Care Center.  Ms. Avant was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Pinkney Lamar Rogers and Mary Louise Etheridge Rogers.  Ms. Avant was a waitress at Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant for many years and later worked as a Quality Control Manager at Claxton Poultry.  She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers, was an excellent cook and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Avant was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Thomas Rogers and one sister, Betty Jean Holton.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Brannen of Statesboro, Kimberly and Joe Burnsed of Ellabell, Stephanie and Rodrigo Quijada of Lawton, OK and Tonya and Brad Stai of Fayetteville, GA; one brother, James Rogers of Pooler; grandchildren, Ainsley Byington, Aaron Burnsed, Kirstie Ranslam, Corey Emeott, Donovan Stai, and Hannah Stai and eight great grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Northside Cemetery will Dr. Joe Holloway officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bright Animal League.
