Rebecca Ruth Bragg, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Black Creek, Georgia, on Monday, July 20th, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, on March 18th, 1930, Rebecca was the beloved daughter of Oscar Lee Curl and Louise Curl.
Rebecca, known affectionately as "Reba", dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. A devoted housewife, she was the loving wife of Rufus H. Bragg, Sr., with whom she shared 65 joyful years until his passing.
Rebecca's zest for life was evident in her many passions. She was an exceptional cook and the family gathered for dinner at her home every Sunday, every special occasion, or for no occasion at all. She was an avid golfer, earning the title of Women's Champion at the Sergeant Jasper Golf Club in her 70's. Her love for dancing was undeniable, often found square and line dancing with friends. She enjoyed camping, roller skating, bowling and remarkably, she took to the waters for skiing until the age of 84. Above all, Rebecca's greatest loves were her family and her steadfast relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a member of Bloomingdale Community Church since 1985 and previously Free Methodist of Savannah.
She is survived by her two children, Debbie Shuman of Black Creek and Rufus H. Bragg, Jr. of Black Creek; and her three grandchildren, known affectionately to them as "Mema", Davey Shuman (Melissa), Robbie Shuman (Victoria), and Robin Mock (Jason). Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren, Grant Shuman, Ryan Shuman, II., Levi Mock, Mason Mock, and Rolan Shuman, whom she adored. Rebecca was also a loving "Aunt Reba" to many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who became family.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Rufus H. Bragg, Sr., her dear parents, Oscar Lee Curl and Louise Curl, her son-in-law David Shuman her grandson Ryan Shuman I; sister, Betty Bowen and daughter-in-law Alicia Kim Bragg.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rebecca's life at a visitation on Friday, July 24th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Flanders Powell Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am. Rebecca will be laid to rest at Northside Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.
Rebecca Ruth Bragg will be remembered for her unwavering love, her adventurous spirit, and the lasting legacy she leaves behind in the hearts of all who knew her.
