Penny Sue Bacon
Shuman
August 29, 1964 – June 8, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Penny Sue Bacon Shuman, who entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 8th, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on a warm Saturday, August 29th, 1964, in Pembroke, Georgia, Penny was a beloved resident of Pembroke, Georgia.
A 1983 graduate of Bryan County High School, Penny dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for others. She found joy in her work as a school nutrition food service assistant at Bryan County Middle School and as a Cashier at Food Lion, where her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of many.
Penny's love for cooking, particularly her cherished pound cakes, was only surpassed by her passion for spending time with her family and tending to her garden's roses. Her nurturing and loving spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Robert "Danny" Shuman, with whom she shared a life full of love and cherished memories. She is dearly remembered by her son, Keith Shuman, and his wife Kayla of Metter; her daughter, Holly NeSmith, and her husband Jason of Stilson. Penny leaves behind her brother, James Bacon, and his wife Lisa of Richmond Hill, and her sister, Janice Rouse, and her husband David of Statesboro. She was a proud and loving Mimi to Kirsten Shuman, Kase Shuman, and Kinslee NeSmith. Her special aunt, Pearl Hagan, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also mourn her passing and her dog Lily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Alton Bacon and Cora-Lee Owens, her stepfather, John Kenneth Owens, and her brother, Calvin Bacon.
A visitation will be held at Flanders Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11th, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where friends and family are invited to pay their respects. The funeral service will be conducted at Flanders Powell Funeral Home on Friday, June 12th, 2026, at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Northside Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the compassionate care of Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory. In honor of Penny's love for flowers, particularly roses, the family welcomes floral tributes to celebrate her life.
Penny's legacy of love, warmth, and generosity will live on through the lives of those she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished, and the impact she made will continue to grow and blossom like the roses she so dearly loved.
