It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Lee Murton Howard, who peacefully departed this life at home on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Bainbridge, Ohio, on June 24, 1944, Nancy lived a full and loving life devoted to her family and those she held dear.
A resident of Pembroke, Georgia, since 1980, Nancy was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years, Stephen S. Howard, Sr. Nancy is survived by her children: Stephen S. Howard, Jr. (Christie) of Pembroke, GA; Peggy L. Pawling (Jason) of Middletown, NJ; Ronnie J. Howard (Julie) of Pembroke, GA; Bobby A. Howard (Angie) of Pembroke, GA; and Hank S. Howard of Brookville, OH.
Nancy was affectionately known as “Mema” to her large and loving family, which includes 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four of her 22 siblings—George Murton, Elizabeth Bolster, Madeline Duncan, and Sally Singleton—as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. Murton and Florence Kampf Murton, along with many of her siblings.
Nancy dedicated 24 years of service as a garden associate at Walmart, a role that perfectly matched her passion for tending plants, especially her cherished roses and cacti. She loved Elvis, owls, hummingbirds, and found joy in watching Hallmark movies, crime shows, and completing word search puzzles.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Flanders-Powell Funeral Home & Crematory in Pembroke, GA. A chapel service honoring Nancy’s life will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Corinth-Leefield Cemetery in Brooklet, GA.
Nancy will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her.
