James W. Cason 62, of Yulee, Fl., passed away Thursday morning March 7, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Statesboro, Ga., on January 15, 1951, the son of J.D. and Dallas Daniel Cason. He was raised in Bryan County, Georgia and graduated from Bryan Co. High School in 1968 where he was on the track team. He enrolled at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Ga. and graduated in 1972 with a B.A. in Business Administration. He met the Former Joanna Russell of Savannah, Ga., and they were married the following year. He and his new bride moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida where he was an Assets Recovery Specialist with the Florida National Bank.

In 1975, they returned home to Bryan County, Ga. and he joined his father in the family business, Cason Plumbing and Electric Company. Always interested in promoting youth development, he was a founding member of the Pembroke Jaycees.

In 1980 they returned to Amelia Island as he was summoned by the Amelia Island Plantation to join their development team. He remained with the Amelia Island Co. until 1995 when he formed the James Cason Company. He owned and operated the company until his health began to fail last year.

He was a member of the Yulee Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Ducks Unlimited Chapter, and the Nassau Sport Fishing Club.

Mr. Cason was a longtime member of his family church, the First Baptist Church of Pembroke, Ga. His father J.D. Cason and sister Jay Ann Gaultney passed away several years ago. He leaves behind his wife, Joanna Russell Cason, his son, James Louis & Monica Cason of Hilliard, Fl., his daughter Jennifer & Jim Mullis of Yulee, Fl., his mother Dallas D. Cason of Richmond Hill, Georgia, his sister Lou and Lloyd Waner of Amelia Island, his grandchildren , Jimmie Frank Mullis, Julianne and Jennings Mullis, Addyson Cason, Brandyn and Lincoln Seldomridge and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM Friday at the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.

The Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday in the Burgess Chapel with Rev. Wes
Slough, officiating.

He will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Cason family lot in the Northside Cemetery, Pembroke, Georgia.

The family asks that memorials may be made to the the Youth Fund of either the First Baptist Church of Hilliard, 15850 C.R. 108 Hilliard, Fl. 32046 or the Memorial United Methodist Church, 601 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach, Fl. 32034 . Flanders Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
