Ellabell-Mr. Hubert Barnard, Jr. affectionately known as "Papa D, Dip, or Dippy"age 65 passed away Monday September 3, 2012 at Hospice of Savannah while in the presence of his loving family. Mr. Barnard was retired after 30 years of service from Great Dane Trailers where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor and was a longtime member of Thunderbolt Baptist Church. Papa D first of all loved and worshipped his family, loved to cook being a fantastic cook, was an avid sportsman, a lover of hunting, fishing, softball, and baseball of which he was an excellent player. He was a dedicated NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Fan. "Dip" was scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates while in his early 20's and being short of stature hindered his chances of playing professional baseball proving to be a big disappointment to him. He was a member of the Black Creek Golf Club and one of the highlights of his life was his Hole-in-one he made while playing on the Black Creek Course. He was predeceased by his father Hubert Barnard Sr.

He is survived by his mother Lure Nesmith Barnard of Savannah, his loving wife of 13 years Agnes Marie Wren Barnard of Ellabell, three daughters and son-in-laws Shannon Rivera of Richmond Hill, Sherry Woodcock and Jeffrey Howard of Bloomingdale, and Joyce Belinda and John Williams of Sylvania; son and daughter-in-law Hubert and Kristina Barnard III of Hinesville, two brothers Rodney Barnard of Shellmans Bluff, and Mark Barnard of Thunderbolt; eight grandchildren Amber, Brittany, Destinee'(Papa D's "Dolollie") Rivera all of Richmond Hill, Cheyanne' (Papa D's 'Boo Butt") Woodcock Howard of Bloomingdale, Kirsten and Kayleigh Barnard of Hinesville, and Jason "Buster" Wilson and Riley Williams of Sylvania; great grandson John Tyler Gilpatrick of Richmond Hill, and other relatives.

Visitation is 6-8 P.M. Saturday September 8, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be 3 P.M. Sunday September 9, 2012 in the chapel with Pastor Stan Tyson officiating. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: the Wendell Glisson Memorial Fund, 24 Wembly Ct., Black Creek, GA. 31308-5447.
