Blitchton- Hardie Myrick Gardner, age 91 died Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, 2013 at Savannah Square. Mr. Gardner was a graduate of The Ways Station High School in Richmond Hill, where he met Henry and Clara Ford. Mr. Henry Ford later signed Mr. Gardner's diploma. Mr. Gardner spent a summer in Washington D.C. where he served as a congressional page. He served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII, where he was an engineer on the B17 for the Mighty Eighth. During one mission, he extinguished a cock pit fire saving both the plane and crew. After the war he lived in Ft. Lauderdale for three years. There he installed pools and continued upon his return home. He built the pool at the Pembroke Recreation Center and for several private individuals. For 30 years, he served as Magistrate Judge and notary and was the owner and operator of Gardner's Grocery in Blitchton for over 35 years. Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Grace E. Gardner.

Survivors include his son Myrick Gardner of Blitchton; one daughter Carol Wilson of Blitchton; one sister Erin Gardner of Florida; two grandchildren Ryan Kelly and Kristin Mayfield; one step granddaughter Betty Joe O'Hare; one great grandson Cormac Mayfield and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6-9 P.M. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with burial to follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Flandersmorrisonfuneralhome.com.
