Mr. Gene Spell

Ellabell- Franklin Eugene "Gene" Spell, Sr., age 78 of Ellabell, died Saturday evening at Candler Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Spell was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Admiral's ship, the USS Saint Paul. Mr. Spell was an avid fisherman and a member of First Baptist Church of Pembroke. He was preceded in death by his parents Collins McCoy and Eula Ginn Spell.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Virginia Edwards Spell of Ellabell; one son Frank Spell, Jr. of Ellabell; one daughter Susan Heape of Ellabell; two brothers Carroll and Jimmy Spell; five sisters Jennie Richardson, Sadie Nolde, Ruth Fontenot, Barbara Daniels and Mary Alice Morris; five grandchildren Leslie, William, Andrew, Joseph and Rachel; three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 P.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Pembroke with Dr. Brad Butler officiating.
