Mr. Larry Eugene Purcell, Sr., age 79, passed away at his residence on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Mr. Purcell was born in Steubenville, OH on May 6, 1941 to the late William Ivan and Virginia Baker Purcell. He served 10 years in the Marine Corps, having three tours of duty in Vietnam and four years as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC. After the Marine Corps, he became a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years in Terre Haute, IN and later served over 18 years in the Air Force and retired in 1995. Mr. Purcell was an avid bowler, golfer and worked at Black Creek Golf Course for 20 years. He was a member and Past Master of the Zerubbabel Masonic Lodge #15 F&AM, Knights of Mecca, Shriner of Alee Temple where he was an original Alee Temple Pirate, Scottish Rights and American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Heidi Holli Houghton Purcell; son, Larry E. Purcell, II of Guyton; three daughters, Samantha Batchelor and her husband Milton of Pembroke, Heather Mueller and her husband Kevin of AZ and Sonseearay Moench and her husband Doug of NE and one brother, William Leroy Purcell and his wife Brenda of IN; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and 2 grea-grandchildren on the way.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Memorial service will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Morrison Memorial Chapel with Doctor Brad Butler officiating.
Military honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps.
The family request that casual attire be worn by those in attendance.
