Kenneth Aubrey Purvis, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Savannah, GA on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in Ellabell, Georgia, on November 14th, 1934, Kenneth was a man renowned for his kindness, unwavering dedication to his family, service to his country, and remarkable work ethic.
While in his early years, Kenneth answered the call to serve his country with honor, dedicating 20 years of service in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge, Kenneth seamlessly transitioned into a distinguished career with the Department of Agriculture, where he devoted another 25 fruitful years. Throughout his life, he was known for his love of work, whether it was in military service or the agricultural field—he truly loved what he did.
Kenneth was a man of varied interests, most notably, he enjoyed spending time with his brothers, indulging in fishing trips, or meticulously working on home improvement projects. His ability to fix and work on anything was well-known, and he spent much of his time doing just that, whether for himself or generously helping others. Kenneth had an innate ability to connect with everyone he met and was known for his willingness to give the shirt off his back for those in need.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara Jean Holmes Purvis, his parents Troy L. Purvis and Bertie L. Ennis Purvis, his siblings Ardie Purvis, Gene C. Purvis, Troy L. Purvis Jr., Donnie Purvis, Jimmy Purvis, Linda Purvis Bullard, and his cherished dog, Gentleman Jack.
Kenneth is survived by his sons, William L. Purvis and David A. Purvis (Angela), and his grandson, Joshua L. Purvis. His legacy of love, service, and generosity also lives on through them.
A memorial service will be held to honor Kenneth's remarkable life on Friday, October 30th, 2026, at 10:00 am at Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory in Pembroke, GA. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Kenneth are warmly invited to remember and celebrate him.
