Mr. John Howard Cleland, 74, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Effingham County Hospital. He was born in Savannah on October 7, 1941 and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He retired from the International Longshoreman Association and was a truckdriver. Mr. Cleland enjoyed gardening, was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and was an excellent small engine mechanic.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Diane Bryant; father, Howard Cleland; brother, Michael Aaron Cleland; sister, Ruth Diane Cleland and grandson, Jessie Calloway.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Rivers Gaddy of Ellabell; son, John H. Cleland and his wife Sammie of Pembroke; brothers, Ronnie Love of Ellabell and David Cleland of Atlanta; grandchildren, Christopher Calloway and Jessica Calloway and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 5 -8 p.m. at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.
Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Hillcrest West Cemetery in Savannah with Rev. Calvin Bradley officiating.
