Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward "Eddie" Burns, a cherished resident of Ellabell, Georgia, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, at the age of 71. He was born on August 20th, 1954, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late John W. Burns and Alma Ruth Carnes.

Eddie was a talented painter and carpenter who dedicated over 20 years to his craft, proudly working for himself and leaving a lasting impact through his skilled workmanship. He lived a life inspired by creativity and resourcefulness, which was mirrored in both his personal and professional endeavors.

Eddie had a passion for watching western TV shows, with Gun Smoke being one of his timeless classic favorites. He was also an enthusiastic traveler, especially fond of taking cruises and going to the beach and was an devoted fan of the Rolling Stones, Dallas Cowboys, and Denver Broncos. His love for cats brought him great joy and companionship throughout his life.

Eddie is survived by his loving family: his brother, Donald Burns and wife Julie; sister-in-law, Tracy Queen; three nieces, Kimberly Cook (Terry), Kristy Burns, and Victoria Burns; two nephews, Phillips Burns (Tiffany) and Joshua Burns (Abigail); as well as several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, David Burns.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Eddie's life will be held at Flanders Powell Funeral Home on Sunday, July 12th, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor his memory and share cherished stories.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanders Powell Funeral Home & Crematory, who have supported the family during this time of mourning.
