Mrs. Janice Starling Nelson, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Janice was born February 25, 1940, in Bulloch County, GA, to the late Carl and Lucille Starling. A lifelong resident of Southeast Georgia, she graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School and was proud to say she never missed a day of school. She spent most of her life doing what she loved most- taking care of her family and making a home filled with love, laughter and cherished memories.
If you knew Janice you know that she never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anybody and make them feel like an old friend before it was over. She had a strong spirit, a kind heart, and a way of making people feel welcome wherever she went. Her home was often filled with family, friends, laughter, and stories and there was room for one more at her table.
In her younger years comma, Janice was an outstanding basketball player and carried her love of sports throughout her life. She especially loved softball and sponsored teams over the years. She was one the biggest supporters of her son, Denny, known to me at "Denny Boy", and she never missed a chance to cheer on her children and grandchildren in all they did.
Janice found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved working in her flowers, tending her garden, and keeping one of the prettiest years around. Many who knew her admired the pride she took in her home and the beauty she created around it. She enjoyed relaxing by the pool, spending time outdoors, and gathering with family and friends whenever she could.
More than anything, Janice loved her family. Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was the role she treasured most. Her family was her pride and joy, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on through them.
She is survived by her son, Denny Nelson (Terri); her daughter, Carla Nelson (Franklin); her grandchildren, Erica Anderson (Robbie) and Eric Nelson (Emmy); her great grandchildren, Shane Anderson and Aden Anderson; her brother, Randy Starling (Bootsie); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lucille Starling, and her sister, Jean Starling Galbreath.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Lawrence Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with burial in Lawrence Baptist Church Cemetery.
While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing Janice lived a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and love. Her warm smile, caring heart, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will never be forgotten. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she leaves behind will be treasured for generations to come.
