James Arthur Willis Jr.

James A. Willis, Jr., born August 10, 1942, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and family devotion.

He was the beloved son of the late Bernice W. Willis and James A. Willis Sr., and a devoted husband to his wife, Sara L. Willis. Together, they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and commitment. James was a proud father to his sons, James Mahaffey, Darryl Schwalls, Jon Willis, and Dale Schwalls. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward a part of his strength and character.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, demonstrating the same sense of duty that would define much of his life. Following his military service, James dedicated 40 years of hard work to CSX Railroad, where he earned the respect of colleagues through his reliability and perseverance.

In addition to his professional and military service, James was actively involved in his community. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Sons of the Confederacy, 8th Georgia, reflecting his interest in history and heritage.

James will be remembered as a man of steadfast principles, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. His life was marked by service—to his country, his work, and those closest to him—and his memory will live on in the lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Johnnie Joyner officiating.

Burial will be held at Northside Cemetery.
