Hattie M. Wayda, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga surrounded by family.

Hattie was born on September 7th, 1943 in Laredo, Tx to James and Amelia (Arispe) Vaughn. She was the oldest of five children and took on the role of caregiver very early. She left school at a young age to help provide and care for her family. And when she married the love of her life, Edward J. Wayda, they created their own family that she dedicated her life to raising while proudly supporting her husband through his career in the Airforce. She would go on to help raise and support her grandchildren and great grandchildren instilling in all of them an appreciation for their mexican heritage, a love for animals (especially small dogs), and a competitive spirit in her favorite game of Bingo.

Mrs. Wayda is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edward J. Wayda; her brothers: Raymond Vaughn (65), James Vaughn Jr. (69), John Vaughn (66); and her parents James (55) and Amelia (70) Vaughn.

Mrs. Wayda is survived and dearly missed by her children: James (Rosalinda) Wayda, Deborah Braun, and Christine (Michael) Neagley; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her sister Jo Ann (Blas✝️) Reyes, and several nieces, nephews, and honorary grandchildren.

Cremation Services provided by Flanders-Powell Funeral Home and Crematory.

Graveside and Burial Service managed by Rose Garden Funeral Home will be July 11, 2026 in Zapata, TX at a time TBA.
