Mrs. Glenda Joy Hendry Carter, age 78, passed away at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Al on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Mrs. Carter was born in Lanier, Ga to the late Frank Lee Hendry and Mary Lee Denmark Hendry on October 30, 1944. She retired with the Savannah Airport Commission after 10 years of service as a Human Resources Administrator.

She was a former member of James Island Lutheran Church in Charleston, SC and later joined Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Savannah and was currently a member of Bethany Church of Ellabell. Mrs. Carter attended Black Creek Elementary School from 1950 – 1957 and graduated from Bryan County High School in 1962. She held a Human Resources Certification through Georgia Southern University.

 

Mrs. Carter was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1994, where she served as Vice Regent of the chapter from 2006 – 2008 and as Regent from 2008 – 2010. She also served as Chairman of numerous committees in the chapter and at the State and National levels. At the time of her passing, she was Member At Large in the state of Georgia. She was also a member with the Statesboro Regional Arts Association, Arts on The Coast, Black Creek School Museum Committee, Charter Member of The Women’s Business Alliance of Richmond Hill, Leadership Bryan Alumni Association, Secretary/Treasurer of The Pembroke Theatre Board and was the previous owner/photographer and photo artist of Archway Images.

 

She enjoyed photography, making handmade greeting cards, watching Hallmark movies, reading books, painting with oils and acrylics, family history research, traveling and spending time with her granddaughter Sophie.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Carter; daughter, Sandra Joy Patat Feizi; three brothers, George Therman Hendry, William Samuel Hendry and Harry Truman Hendry; six sisters, Marguerite Hendry Shaw, Nettie Uldine Hendry Burnsed, Mary Lois Hendry Burnsed, Beulah Virginia Hendry Lee, Frankie Jenell Hendry Miller and Carey Levine Hendry Bacon and grandson, Nathaniel Thomas Russell Patat.

 

Survivors include her son, Eric P. Patat (April) of Alabaster, Al and granddaughter, Sophie Elizabeth Patat of Alabaster, Al.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

 

Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Royce Hendry officiating.

 

Burial will be held at the Bethany Church of Ellabell.
