Obituary

Frederick "Rick" Dean McDonald, cherished brother, devoted friend, and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17th, 2026, at the age of 65. Rick was a resident of Pembroke, Georgia, at the time of his passing, but his life's journey began in Hartford, Connecticut, where he was born on Friday, January 6th, 1961.

Rick's adventurous spirit led him to a fulfilling career as a boat captain, a profession he dedicated 15 years to as a self-employed expert navigating the waters. His skill and passion for the sea were evident to all who knew him.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Rick will remember him not only for his career but also for his many interests and contributions to the community. Rick had a remarkable talent for bringing joy to seniors, often spending time and leading small church services at the Pembroke Senior Citizens Center. He was a man of diverse interests who loved fishing and was a diehard fan of Jeopardy, impressively knowing all the answers. His adventurous journey included time working on a lobster boat in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frederick William McDonald and Joyce Buck McDonald, and his brother, Buck McDonald. He leaves behind a loving family who mourns his loss deeply, including his seven siblings: Kathy Mafera of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Janis McDonald of Stone Mountain, GA, Mike McDonald (Kathy) of Bonita Beach, FL, Chris McDonald of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Marylin McDonald (Jim Vacarro) of Gaithersburg, MD, Robby McDonald (Cathy) of Clemmons, NC, and Joy Christensen of Fruitland Park, FL. Rick's legacy also includes numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will continue to cherish his memory.

In honor of Rick's wishes, services will be private.

The family invites those who knew Rick to remember him in their own special way, celebrating a life marked by adventure, community service, and unwavering familial love.
