Earl “Deane” Cannon, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a remarkable friend to many, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14th, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on August 5th, 1946, in Pembroke, Georgia, Deane lived a life full of dedication and service to her family and community.
Deane is survived by her loving family: daughter Sheri Strickland and her husband Lonnie, and son Jesse Barton. She was a proud grandmother to Christopher Strickland, Will Strickland and his wife Brittany, Dylan Strickland and his wife Ashleigh, Tyler Barton, Jacob Barton, Bella Barton, and Sophie Barton. Deane’s legacy further extends to her ten cherished great-grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews who brought much joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her dear parents, Jesse and Ruth Hodges Cannon, and her siblings, brother James Lee and sister Jessie Ruth Driggers.
Deane was not only a loving family matriarch but also an industrious worker. Her career as a truck and bus driver allowed her to contribute to various companies. She held a CDL license, which she utilized to drive school buses for the Savannah Chatham Schools and served as a dump truck driver over numerous years.
A good Christian woman, Deane was a devoted member of The Bridge Church of Pembroke. She found great spiritual kinship with Pastor John Hagee, whom she adored. Deane obtained her ministry license alongside her son, Jesse, empowering her to reach many through various ministries, including impactful prison ministries.
Deane possessed a profound love for life’s simple pleasures. She was an unparalleled cook, renowned for her potato salad, chicken and dumplings, hoe cakes, and fried chicken, which were a staple at family gatherings. Her love for Western films brought her much joy and comfort in her leisure hours. Above all, Deane was a constant presence in her family's life, always stepping up when needed with kindness and wisdom.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 AM, September 19th, 2026, at The Bridge Church-Pembroke, 745 Mason Rd., Pembroke, Ga 31321.
