Mrs. Betty Murphy Powell, 77, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday, January 20, 2017. She was born on November 10, 1939 to the late Jim Murphy and Ruby June Burris Murphy in Statesboro, GA.  Mrs. Powell graduated from Bryan County High School in 1957 where she was a member of the basketball team and later worked as seamstress at Claxton Manufacturing in Pembroke.  She was a volunteer at the voting poll office for Bryan County and was an active member of the Pembroke Senior Center.  Mrs. Powell enjoyed traveling, was an excellent cook, loved spending time with her grandchildren and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Johnnie Ray Powell and son, Glenn Ashley Powell.

Survivors include two sons, Don Powell of Pembroke and David Powell and his wife Lisa of Black Creek; brother, Jimmy Murphy and his wife Judy of Prattville, AL; grandchildren, David Matthew Powell and his wife Bunny, Michael Don Powell and his wife Brittney and Jacob Wayne Powell; one great-grandson, Rowan Everett Powell.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 5 -8 p.m. at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Doctor Robert Hughes officiating.

Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.
